Darling_river1.jpgDarling river
We woke up slowly, got dressed and made breakfast (cabin 4). My cabin and I had cereal and made pancakes. We traveled on a bus to the Darling River, stopping to take photos of the flooding. The bus driver dropped us of as the over group was coming back on the boat. It was called the lady river. We saw tree branches popping out of the water. The water wasn't clear or blue instead it was murky and green. Broken Hill has a beautiful and unusual landscape that we should take inspiration from. The captain of the boat told us some negatives and positives of the flooding. When we got back we were supposed to listen to a man

told about Australian bush tucker but unfortunately he couldn't come. We worked on our blogs. I wrote about what we did today and what might be useful. I collected some photo's to upload but the internet was really slow. Today I learnt that there are also positives of the floods. The information I received will help me with my project and next terms geography. Water is often shown in broken hills artworks because it is a huge part of their environment. I also learned that Ms fajou is really good at bocce!

Bush and beyond –Wendy martin and Ian LewisBush_and_beyond11.jpg
The art works at the Bush and beyond gallery were realistic and focused on the natural environment. Ian’s work was done with oil on canvas. He loves to catch the beauty of broken hill and often shows the changes in weather. Wendy used mainly pastel and occasionally oil on canvas. Some of her work showed the struggles that women face living in rural areas. She shows the work that women had to do during the depression and women with cancer that have the dilemma of being far away from treatment. She expresses her feelings and the history of broken Hill.

Khushy and I went to outback and beyond together and we sore the artworks of Wendy martin and Ian Lewis. Ian painted on canvas with oil paints. He liked to paint lots of landscape on different size canvases. Wendy painted on different objects like mannequins and mining hats. She used pastels on canvas and she made jewelry. Both Wendy and Ian were inspired by the broken hill landscape in their artworks. They like to paint realistic interpretations of what they see around town and in photos.

Bushy whites
We went to the Bushy Whites to see the local artist. The artist talked us through themining experience and showed us some of the inventions the miners invented for the under ground journey.
Every artist has their own inspiration and perspective for art, this particular artist I learned that his inspiration came from his career in mining, he even got inspiration from the minerals he now uses in his art, art of local experiences based on the local area, definitely his lifestyle, examples of his work that of the natural environment but they use it.
I think his way of art is very inspirational because of how and what type of materials he used. -Khushi

Railway museum

At the railway museum i sore many different things that weren’t directly considered artbut in the old rusty, way many could interoperaterailway_museum.jpg them as art these days. The "art" at the railway museum is mostly weather worn machinery from the trains and mines the machines weren’t original meant to be art but over time they have lost their purpose and have become so rusted and broken that many artist would have used them for inspiration at some point. One exhibit stood out and inspired me the most. The migrants exhibit had lots of costumes from the people who migrated to broken hill from different backgrounds. The costumes where unique and colorful but the didn’t reflect broken hill in them selves but they did inspire me to think of reflecting the broken hill rural art scape into fabric design/textiles.

Regional art gallery

At the regional art gallery I sore the different artworks of several different artists. Khushy and I interviewed the education officer of the gallery and we found that many of the broken hill artists are influenced by the broken hill landscape. Most of the artist make realistic paintings and sculpture about the broken hill landscape.

Pro hart

Pro_hart1.jpg
I went to the pro hart gallery and sore lots of pro harts artworks from different times in his life. We sore lots of famous artworks like the dragonfly on the carpet and others. Pro hart didn’t paint as much landscape as people. He did have elaborate backgrounds but his main focus was mostly the people and what they where doing. While at pro hart we interviewed his wife’s brother’s wife who told us more about him.
